Hey, we’re Hannah and Ruairi!
Like most, our journey into parenthood wasn’t quite what we had expected. Our twins were born 5 weeks premature and spent their first few weeks in hospital. We didn't sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time…
…and it continued for months when we got home. We were exhausted, emotional and life felt completely out of control. We completely lost who we were, our relationship struggled and our mood’s hit rock bottom. We were just existing and barely functioning.
We couldn’t go on like this. Something had to change…we needed sleep.
So Hannah researched sleep for little ones, routines and tips for getting twins to sleep at the same time. This took months, lots of trial and error, many, many arguments and googling all hours of the night (and day!), but eventually we found a routine that worked for us.
Our twins started sleeping through the night and so did we! Oh, the relief! They started napping regularly and at the same time we started getting our evenings back and started to feel ourselves again. And the best thing? We got time to be a couple again and we started to enjoy parenting.
Good, regular, predictable sleep made our babies more enjoyable. They were much happier and more content now they were getting the rest they needed. The rest that they, and we, had been crying out for.
From there they’ve flown, we’ve always prioritised their sleep and you know what?
✩ The terrible twos weren’t so terrible
✩ Three-nagers? not so bad either
✩ Four-nadoes? Yes, they’re busy, but we still let them rest and keep an eye on their sleep and this has a massive impact on their mood and ability to regulate their emotions.
The terrible two’s were so OK that we decided to have another baby, something I never thought we would do in those early, sleep deprived days.
This time round it was totally different. We used what we learnt with our twins and put that to practice with our youngest and he has always been a good sleeper. Which got us to thinking…we should help other families to get better sleep.
So, we trained as certified baby and toddler sleep coaches and The Mini Sleep Experts was born.
